A service shaped around you

Portable Appliance Testing, with your priorities in mind.

From shared appliances to equipment used throughout the working day, the right maintenance approach starts with understanding how and where each item is used. Our portable appliance testing service brings together an agreed inspection scope, considered visit planning and clear records.

Who it’s for

Businesses and site managers responsible for portable electrical equipment in workplaces, education settings, hospitality premises and shared properties. The equipment, environment and service availability will be reviewed before work is agreed.

The scope of your service

What your service can include

We will agree the equipment, access arrangements and reporting requirements before confirming a visit. Select an area below to explore what can be included.

Equipment requirements considered in the context of your workplace.

An agreed equipment list

Identify the portable appliances to be covered, their locations and any operational constraints or existing records. An accurate list helps define the proposed visit and identify items requiring further consideration before an arrangement is confirmed.

Inspection and appropriate testing

A scope combining visual inspection with testing where appropriate, carried out by a person competent for the equipment and work involved. The approach is considered against the equipment and environment, with competence and the exact inspection scope agreed in advance.

Clear findings and records

Agreed records of the items inspected or tested, the results and issues requiring attention, so your team can follow up confidently. The format and level of detail are confirmed with your team so the information supports your existing equipment management arrangements.

Practical follow-up

Discuss the findings, responsibilities for corrective action and a suitable review approach. Repairs and replacement equipment are agreed separately. Responsibilities for decisions and additional work are kept clear, with any further costs or appointments requiring agreement.

Access and operational coordination

Agree appliance access, user communication and any necessary disconnection before a visit. The proposed schedule takes account of operational priorities, with arrangements and service availability confirmed before work is booked.

Discuss your requirements

A clear plan. Accountable delivery.

Understand your equipment

Tell us about your premises, appliance types, approximate quantities and how the equipment is used. This gives the discussion a practical starting point, focused on the priorities that matter to your organisation.

Plan around your people

Agree access, any necessary disconnection and a visit schedule that takes your operations into account. The proposed specification makes responsibilities and exclusions clear, with any additional requirements confirmed separately.

Make the findings useful

Define the records you need and how any issues will be communicated, with delivery subject to confirmed availability. Communication and next steps are agreed with your nominated contact, providing clarity around the proposed arrangement.

Useful to know

Your questions, answered.

Is PAT testing available from Integral now?

Yes. This service is available by arrangement. Contact us to discuss your needs and we will confirm the scope and delivery arrangements when quoting.

Does every appliance need testing every year?

No. HSE advises a risk-based approach: the type of equipment, its use and its environment help determine the inspection and testing needed. There is no blanket legal requirement for annual PAT testing. Read HSE’s guidance on portable appliance testing.

Does PAT cover the building’s fixed wiring?

This page concerns portable electrical equipment. Fixed-wiring inspections, repairs and replacement appliances are outside the standard scope described here and need separate consideration.

What information is needed to discuss a visit?

Provide appliance types, approximate quantities, premises details and existing records where available. The proposed equipment scope, competence and service availability must be confirmed before booking.

Will equipment need to be disconnected?

Access and any necessary disconnection would be agreed in advance. Tell us about equipment that cannot be readily taken out of use so suitable arrangements can be considered.

Can we request a particular record format?

Share your equipment identification and record requirements when enquiring. The available format and information to be supplied would be agreed as part of the proposed service.
